Dailes Theatre, Latvia

The Dailes Theatre is the largest professional theatre in the Baltic States with a history and traditions dating back over a century. The artistic vision of its founder, the legendary director Eduards Smiļģis, has shaped the theater’s style for more than 40 years. Today, this tradition continues, with new innovations and high aesthetic standards determining the artistic direction of the theatre.

Shortly after Latvia’s independence, on 1920-11-19, the first performance took place in the theater. The building of the largest state theatre in the country, designed by Marta Stana, Imants Jakobsons, and Haralds Kanders, was completed in 1976. The main hall seats 1,000 spectators.

Based on the immersive audio system from D&B (Soundscape) already installed in the theatre, the main hall was equipped with a VIVACE 64 room acoustic system. The existing speaker setup was expanded with special ceiling and wall speakers, all of which could be discreetly integrated into the listed architecture of the building.

The VIVACE system includes presets for theatre, choirs, symphony orchestras, ensembles, as well as lectures, thus providing the optimum room acoustic conditions for the various events.

Each season, 200,000 spectators attend a variety of productions that are performed in the main hall or the black box, with the new hall soon to be added. Existing performances are supplemented each year by approximately eight new productions. In all productions, stage sets, props, and costumes are shown which are tailor-made in own workshops on site.
