A new cultural era was ushered in in Wiener Neustadt on 8 November, just in time for the 230th anniversary of the Stadttheater. The ceremonial reopening of the municipal theatre was not only a cultural highlight for the region, but also marked the successful conclusion of another exciting project for us.
The opening evening began impressively with a fanfare by the Tonkünstler Orchestra, followed by moving speeches and a short film premiere about the rebirth of the theatre. The musical performance by soloist Lidia Baich, who played a work by Mozart on an original Mozart violin, tenor Andreas Schager and Ina Regen was particularly impressive. Standing ovations and the Lower Austrian national anthem rounded off this special evening and led into the festive supporting programme.
The test performance by the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria under the direction of Lorenz C. Aichner and Andreas Ottensamer five weeks earlier, the acoustics of the hall and the Vivace system impressed with a harmonious interplay of space and technology.
‘With the reopening of this theatre, we are opening a new chapter in the cultural region of Lower Austria,’ said Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. ‘Above all, we have managed to create more space and room for the freedom of art.’
