Since its foundation in 1824, the long-established Casino-Gesellschaft Basel has been dedicated to promoting culture as a non-profit association. The concert hall of the Stadtcasino, which dates back to 1876, is internationally renowned for its excellent acoustics. However, the entire building is in urgent need of structural renovation.
The operators were immediately faced with the question: where should cultural activities be relocated during the renovation? Finding affordable space available for a period of three years is difficult. The only viable option is the Musical Theatre at Messe Schweiz. “However, VIVACE is a must there,” says Thomas Koeb. This is because the reverberation time in the acoustically dry hall, which was built for musicals, needs to be significantly altered. The acoustics are controlled via tablet computers and six different presets, including settings for solo recitals, chamber music ensembles, larger orchestras and even church music. Suddenly, the Musical Theatre becomes a proper concert hall.
