Every ten years, Oberammergau is in a state of upheaval: with a tradition stretching back almost 400 years, the world-famous Passion Plays attract around half a million spectators to this tranquil village in the Bavarian Alps. In a production lasting several hours, the villagers re-enact the last five days of the life of Jesus Christ.
Even in the years when the Passion Play is not taking place, impressive opera and theatre productions are staged in the 4,800-seat Passion Theatre. However, the unusually wide and deep stage (40m x 15m) severely limits natural speech intelligibility. The acoustics are reverberant, with a low reverberation level. For this reason, all productions since the 2010 Passion Plays have been staged with electroacoustic support. VIVACE enhances both the speakers and singers on stage, as well as the orchestral sound, in a natural way.
