Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt

With its reopening in November 2024, the historic Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt was transformed into a modern cultural centre following a comprehensive general refurbishment. Commissioned by the city of Wiener Neustadt and the state of Lower Austria, the consortium ‘KOUP Architekten ZT GmbH and SMP-ZT’ under the direction of Peter Übersberger realised a project that harmoniously combines tradition and modernity.

The refurbishment included the partial renovation of the building, the reorganisation of the foyer and audience area, the modernisation of the stage technology and significant measures to optimise the room acoustics.

Today, the municipal theatre seats 624 people and combines historical charm with state-of-the-art technology. The improved room acoustics and state-of-the-art sound technology provided by the Vivace system make for an exceptional listening experience.

The Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt is now a fixture for spoken theatre, music, cinema and other event formats in the heart of the region. ‘With the reopening of this theatre, we are opening a new chapter in the cultural region of Lower Austria,’ emphasised Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.
